Lifestyle Diseases The way that we human beings live our lives can be very deadly to our health without realizing it. Lifestyle diseases are caused by the way we live our lives. A lifestyle disease is defined mainly as it being a disease that is associated with the way that a person or people live. They also increase and appear more frequently as countries become more industrialized. There are many different lifestyle diseases. Some being obesity, depression, cancer, and asthma. Many people don’t think that the things they do can cause such things.
Type 2 diabetes, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and heart disease can also be caused by the way one lives their life. Diseases can be caused by smoking and alcohol and drug abuse. Although many other reasons are the outcome of a lifestyle disease. Lifestyle diseases can be prevented and lowered by changing ones diet, environment, lifestyle, and by supplementing with Vitamin D. These diseases are usually a result of an inappropriate relationship with people and their environment. They also can take years to develop but when they finally do it is not very easy to cure them.
Lifestyle diseases differ from other diseases because lifestyle diseases are a direct result of the lifestyle that someone lives. These diseases are preventable. Also, they aren’t caused by bacteria or a virus. But, simply ones lifestyle causes these diseases. Some of the major factors that contribute to the diseases are diet, exercise and genetics. Many factors can contribute to the result of lifestyle diseases. Inappropriate relationships with people and their environment are the onset of these diseases. Once they are encountered they are not easy to cure.
Diabetes, Cancer, and Heart Disease are common lifestyle diseases. Diabetes is a disease that affects sugars used by the body. There are four main types of diabetes. There is Type 1, Type 2, Type 3, and also Type 4. Type 1 diabetes is also known as juvenile-onset diabetes. Type 2 is also known as adult-onset diabetes. Type 3 diabetes occurs in pregnancy to some women. Type 4 diabetes has side effects of drugs and genetic effects; but, they are also linked to hormonal changes and the pancreas. Diabetes results in the build up of sugars in the body.
The Type 1 diabetes can be caused because of white blood cells attacking the pancreatic beta cells and if another family member has had it. Type 2 diabetes is diagnosed in some people that are overweight. Also, people that have Hispanic, Native-American, and African ancestry have more of an increased risk of getting Type 2 diabetes. Many of you may not have known, but Cancer is also a lifestyle disease. It is said that 30% of cancers are caused by tobacco, lung cancer being the most obvious. It can also cause cancers to the mouth, throat, bladder and kidney.
In a recent study, up to 80% of cancers to the breast, cancers of the large bowel and prostate are due to dietary factors. Cancer is common in receiving it from consuming a lot of meat, but not common in eating foods rich in grains such as vegetables and grains. Foods affect the immune system, and the hormones of the body. Also, exposure to radiation, sexual behavior, and chemicals can contribute to the risk of getting some forms of cancer. Alcohol and radiation have a 3% chance of causing cancer, while tobacco has a 30% chance. Heart disease can lead to congestive heart failure, and so can many other lifestyle diseases.
It can cause arrhythmia, which is a disease causing disturbances in a normal heartbeat. Being obese and overweight greatly increases chances of developing more than one risk factor for heart disease, along with high blood pressure and high blood cholesterol. Smoking also increases the risk of heart disease. The American Heart Association has said that more than 400,000 Americans die every year from illnesses related to smoking. Smoking causes problems in the heart and the blood vessels. Contributing risk factors to heart disease can be stress, sex hormones, birth control pills, and alcohol.
Birth control pills have high levels of estrogen and progestin which causes an increased risk of heart disease and stroke. Smoking and being on birth control at the same time cause an even higher risk for heart disease. Stress is also known as a contributing factor to heart disease because when we are put in stressful situations it causes our heart rate and blood pressure to raise which increases our hearts need for oxygen. Modifiable risk factors are factors that can be altered and prevented so the progress of a disease can be checked. Smokers have more of a risk of getting heart disease than non-smokers.
Nicotine in the cigarette is a nerve poison, and carbon monoxide being inhaled directly poisons the heart muscles. Isolation is also a contributing factor in causing diseases. People that have been abandoned or neglected have more of a chance on being put on prescribed drugs because it becomes a challenge to deal with emotional level. Being isolated brings stress, and can lead to more changes in our body. Therefore, it is good to interact and be social with others. Lifestyle diseases can be prevented by changing some of your choices. Not smoking, drinking, doing drugs can decrease the chance of getting any kind of disease.
Also, eating right and not exposing yourself to radiation such as going in a tanning bed can also decrease the chance of getting a disease. Foods with a lot of saturated fats and high sugar content can contribute to the factor of getting a disease. Eating fruits and vegetables increase this risk. Overwhelming work demands are an inappropriate relationship with you. Including late nights and longer hours at work add to stress. In conclusion, a lifestyle disease is something that can be caused by the way a person or persons live their lives.
Eating healthy, and staying away from things that are bad for your body decrease the risk of a lifestyle disease. Maybe next time you’ll think twice about being in love with those McDonalds French fries or being addicted to cigarettes.
