4.2 Five-Paragraph EssayIntroduction
In previous parts of Workshops Two and Three, you developed a title page, gathered together various resources related to that topic, and learned how to reference those resources within a written document. Now you will bring those skills together in the construction of a written essay.

Review and apply the information in the IWU APA 6e Guide, Writing A Five Paragraph Essay, and How to Write an Essay Rap.  
Write a five-paragraph essay.

The main body will focus on a topic about which you are passionate and incorporate the resources that you found earlier in the course.

Place your thesis as the last sentence of your Introductory paragraph.

Wrap up your paper with a Conclusion paragraph.

Follow APA style guidelines when formatting your assignment. This includes:
Running header
Page numbers
References page at the end
Double-spacing throughout (delete the “extra” space between paragraphs by using the “Paragraph” dropdown tool at the top of the document).

Cite the sources from your reference page.

Refer to the Citing References in Text Quick Guide in APA Style Central.

Follow the examples in the APA 6e Guide in order to insert the proper “in-text citations.”
Review the APA Model Essay. Pay particular attention to the format, headings, in-text citations and References page.

When you’ve completed your essay, save a copy for yourself and submit a copy to your instructor using the Assignment Dropbox by the end of the workshop.  TurnItIn will be enabled.

Your instructor will provide feedback to you regarding your paper.  
4.3 Commencement Speech
As you begin your college career, you are probably also envisioning yourself in a cap and gown, walking across the stage, and receiving your diploma from the President of Indiana Wesleyan University.  Just so you know, we believe that goal is totally achievable.  In this assignment, we will look ahead as to how it will feel to have that diploma in your hand.

Part of having a growth mindset and grit is looking ahead, knowing that there are challenges, and then stepping forward toward achieving the goal that lies ahead. A faculty member at Indiana Wesleyan University, Dr. Jerry Pattengale, phrased it this way: “The dream needs to be stronger than the struggle.”
In this assignment, you will create a brief video using the VideoNote tool in Brightspace and then engage with your classmates about their videos  and “Commencement Speeches.”

Articulate projected accomplishments as a college student and how they contribute to achieving one’s life purpose.

If you were the graduation speaker at that event, what is the message that you would deliver to your family, friends, faculty, and others who have helped you on this journey.

Navigate to the discussion forum and start a new thread. Post your response to the following prompt:
As a commencement speaker, what would to share about your college experience, the dream that you are pursuing, and the ways in which you have been helped and supported on this journey.

Your response will be created in the form of a video using the VideoNote tool in Brightspace.

Remember: Your commencement speech must be three minutes or less in VideoNote.

Your initial post is due by the end of the fourth day of the workshop.

Read and respond to at least two of your classmates’ postings, as well as follow-up instructor questions directed to you, by the end of the workshop.

Your postings should:
Be well developed, contain meaningful information, and be stated clearly.

Add greater depth to the discussion by introducing your own ideas, rather than restating what your classmates have shared (Include much more than: “Great post,” or “I agree.”).

Directly address the ideas your classmates have posted in order to contribute to insightful conversation.
