According to Heinrich Rickert, Weber’s “ideal types theory is divided into two ideal types, the first one is historical and the second one is classificatory” (Allan 2014:89). Rickert acknowledged that “Weber developed the key conceptual ideal type theory to explain social events” (Allan 2014:89). According to Weber, he “used an interpretive sociological theory that uses ideas to understand (verstehen) human action, human mind, and condition” (Allan 2014:89). Rickert described “ideal type” not as an existing element of society, but as an “objective measurement, that can be used to compare and comprehend society’s action and reasons for its behavior” (Allan 2014:89). With “verstehen” of “ideal type”, Weber captured the basis of an action and delineate the connotation of thought for human interaction in the social world (Allan 2004:89). According to Weber, abstract concepts could be used to explain social events (Allan 2014:89). Weber argued for an “interpretative sociology that uses concepts to understand the meaning people attach to their actions” (Allan 2014:87). According to Weber, scientist could use ideas called “ideal types”, as a measuring rod that captures the most rational and essential components of any social thing (Allan 2014:105). Weber’s theory is not based on a physical structure created by social groups, but on the understanding of “human reality in its cultural state” (Allan 2014:87). According to Weber, knowing social behavior and the significance of such behaviors permitted Weber to see different points of interpretation by the same society (Allan 2014:89). According to Weber, “ideal type” may become a concept as a rank, grouping objects, things, or persons with peculiarities representing the best of its type. This “ideal type may be found in any given society within different configurations” (Allan 2014:14). According to Weber, “ideal types” also allow for the use of “verstehen”, or the interpretive understanding of the personal impulse individuals connect to their conduct (Allan 2014:89). Weber used “verstehen” to understand different types of communal reaction. According to Weber, he could condense the essential parts of each action, even if it was “action based on tradition, values, or instrumental calculations” (Allan 2014:09). “Verstehen” allowed Weber to get into the inner sense of how individuals emotionally interpreted and chose what they were doing, this was through direct observation and by explanatory understanding (Allen 2014:89). Weber used “ideal type” in a precise sense. According to Weber, “ideal type is a mental construct to orderly identified the causes of a concrete situation to understand and analyze social reality” (Allan 2014:88). Weber used “ideal type” as a special tool that looked at reality squarely because he was concerned that social sciences presented problems of objectivity (Allan 2014:88). The technique that Weber utilized, analyzes, organizes, arranges and explains social reality without illusory preferences (Allan 2014:88). According to Weber, “ideal types” service as an investigative tool, for arrangement and contrast from collected information. A mean for organizing and grasping individual facts, against which the analyst can measure a real phenomenon. According to Weber, his thesis is used to compare observable situations with one another; through the medium of “ideal type” and acquire a verifiable explanation, which account for the various fluctuations (Allan 2014:89). In other words, “ideal type” helps to guide and structure correlative research. According to Weber, “ideal types are concepts formulated based on facts collected carefully and analytically for experimental research, they are constructs which are used as methodological devices or tools for scientific understanding and analysis of any social problem” (Allan 2014:89).Allan described two types of “ideal types”, one is “historical” and the other one is “classificatory” (Allan 2014:89). “Historical ideal type is defined as events from the past that have been assembled into a realistic outline to gather logical characteristics” of the behavior that developed the circumstances (Allan 2014:89). According to Weber, “classificatory ideal type is defined as a development of rational assessment that explores the social behavior and finding connections and differences in logical grounds from one event to another event” (Allan 2014:89). “Classificatory ideal type helps to create conjectures on how a historical, social event could have concluded with different outcomes if social behavior had been responded differently” (Allan 2014:89). According to Weber, combining both “historical and classificatory ideal type” helps us understand the creation, evolution, and transformation of norms; however, “ideal types are rarely found in their pure form in real life” (Allan 2014:91). Many things can cause an event or thing to drift from its most indispensable essence since each of them has fluctuation (Allan 2014:91).ReferencesAllan, Kenneth. 2014.
