Alice Magaw, was popularly known as “The Mother of Anesthesia” and making surgery as we know it today easier and less painful. She is also known for adding major advances to the medical world. She was born on November 9, 1860. Magaw started her schooling for her career at Chicago School of Nursing. This sparked her career and later marked her down in history for her accomplishments.
Magaw didn’t get in her place of success overnight, she definitely encountered some challenges. One of the main obstacles she faced was the time period and generation she was in. Back then times were different for women, and certain people as a whole. They didn’t have much say so. During this time was the civil war, meaning a battle between the North and the South
