Chapter I: Problem and Its Background Background of the Study In today’s technology, computer plays a major role especially when it comes to complex systems. Almost every company and institution here in our country uses a computer based system. This type of system makes their work fast, accurate and reliable. This is the best way of storing and retrieving data on a server or a hard disk rather than using papers and file cabinets. A quick and reliable computer based system is a process wherein an institution can find an easier and better way to implement an enrollment system.
The other schools that use the same proposed system are the Access Computer College, STI College and AMA Computer University. The St. Clare College of Caloocan along Zabarte Road in Caloocan City is a private, non-sectarian, three-level institution of learning. It was the third school established by the Adalem family. The first was Better Children of St. Clare Montessori Center, which was founded in 1986 by Dr. Clarita Adalem. The second school, Better Children of St. Clare Montessori Center-Sto. Nino, was established in 1992.
The unique programs enriched with advanced programs in computer literacy brought about the seemingly unending rise in enrollment in the two St. Clare Montessori Schools and hence the establishment of St. Clare College of Caloocan in 1995. The two forerunner schools now serve as laboratory schools for education courses in the college. During enrollment in St. Clare College of Caloocan, students fill out the registration forms every semester per school year manually, leading to minor errors and inaccuracy.
As the proponents conducted their research and analyzed the existing system, the proponents decided to recommend a LAN Based Computerized Enrollment System with Assessment that will provide good and fast services to the students. The proposed system will provide a better and easier way for the enrollees to transact to their records during enrollment. It will save time and energy for both students and administration. This will help the registrar of St. Clare College Group of Schools to generate data quickly and efficiently that will minimize the processing time of enrollment.
It will also prevent inaccuracy. Objective of the Study General Objective The proponents aim to develop LAN Based Computerized Enrollment System with Assessment for St. Clare Group of Schools. Specific Objective 1. To develop a system that is more accurate and convenient than the existing system. 2. To design a reliable and functional system using Microsoft Visual Foxpro 6. 0. 3. To create a system that will lessen the time and effort of the users. Significance of the Study
The beneficiaries of the LAN Based Computerized Enrollment System with Assessment for St. Clare College Group of Schools proposal are the users, particularly the registrar’s staff and the administration, and also the students. The users can easily compute the payment and record the student’s information efficiently and accurately. They can also share and transfer the information quickly and clearly well-detailed. The students will save time and effort with the assessment of subjects and enrollment. Scope and Delimitations of the Study
This study will focus in the development of LAN based Computerized Enrollment System with Assessment for St. Clare College Group of Schools. Microsoft Visual Foxpro will be used in programming. Only authorized personnel can use this system because it is password protected. It will concentrate on the enrollment transactions such as assessment of subjects and payment of tuition fees. The study is not an Online System and does not include the grades of the students. The study will be used for St. Clare College Group of Schools only. Definition of Terms
The following terms are operationally and conceptually defined. Computer – A device that computes, especially a programmable electronic machine that performs high-speed mathematical or logical operations or that assembles, stores, correlates, or otherwise processes information. Complex – A whole made up of complicated or interrelated parts. System – A group of interacting, interrelated, or interdependent elements forming a complex whole. Server – is a computer, or series of computers, that link other computers or electronic devices together.
They often provide essential services across a network, either to private users inside a large organization or to public users via the internet. Hard disk – a magnetic disk that can store computer data. Proponents – people who conducts the study. LAN (Local Area Network) – supplies networking capability to a group of computers in close proximity to each other such as in an office building, a school, or a home. It is useful for sharing resources like files, printers, games or other applications. Assessment – The evaluation or estimation of the nature, quality, or ability of someone or something.
