g Your EssayAfter you use the author’s full name, use only the last name thereafter.

Write about the article in the present tense. (“Jones writes that”not”Jones wrote that”)Represent the opposing viewpoint to your opinion and explain why that opposing viewpoint is not correct. (See this week’s video.)In contrast to the “This I Believe” essay, your statements will sound stronger if you use third person point of view and avoid words such asI, me, we, us, you, andyour, except for when referring to your own experience. Especially delete first person wording such as: “I think,” “I feel,” or “In my opinion.”If you use the words or work of others to support your position, use the direction given by your instructor to give proper credit to those outside sources.

Outline for Persuasive EssayThesis:The city of Lubbock should pave alleyways to prevent injury to ordinance workers and patrons.

Introduction: Do you think emptying the garbage is an easy chore? My city places trash bins in alleyways behind homes to preserve the beauty of the city. It is a good theory in thought, butit in realityit does not work because the unpaved conditions of the alleyways cause problems in any type of weather.

This needs to change so community members do not have to deal with these primitive conditions.

Thesisthat the city of Lubbock should pave alleyways to prevent injury to ordinance workers and patrons.

Problem: Alleyways become impassable for garbage trucks and patrons when it rains. Garbage trucks get stuck and sometimes cause damage to backyards. Patrons do not want to walk through mud to drop off the garbage. Then I will include other summarized problems from the listed source.

In the summer alleyways become dry. Since Lubbock has an average of wind speed of 20 miles per hour, it is common to get dust in your eyes.

The alleyways are unattended; therefore, bushes and trash build up. I have a difficult time opening my back gate because of the overgrown bushes. A surprising poll from 10 of my neighbors shows how many of them are pokedby bushes and how many opt to drive the trash to the bin in order to avoid being poked.

Conclusion: Paving the alleyways will make the city of Lubbock a better place for ordinance workers and patrons.
