How Blood Flows through the Heart
By: Kaitlyn Caminita 6/4/2018
The heart is one of the most important parts of the body. Without blood doing its job the heart would not function properly. Thanks to our blood and other parts of the heart working together we can live our everyday lives.
The first thing that happens is oxygenated and deoxygenated blood enters the superior and inferior cava’s. Oxygenated blood is blood with high levels of oxygen. Deoxygenated blood is blood with low levels of oxygen. The second thing that takes place is blood enters the right atrium. The atria (one is atrium) is two chambers at the top of the heart. From there it enters the tricuspid valve. The tricuspid valve is a valve that has three flaps. The flaps prevent the reflux of blood from the right ventricle to the right atrium. Then blood enters the right ventricle. The right ventricle is one of two lower chambers in the heart. It’s responsible for pumping blood into the arteries and pushing it so that blood reaches all cells of the body. Next blood goes the pulmonary valve. The Pulmonary valve is one of the two valves that allow blood to exit the heart. From there blood travels through the pulmonary artery. In the pulmonary artery deoxygenated blood returns from the body to the heart. After that, blood passes through the lungs. From there blood enters the left atrium. Then blood passes into the left ventricle. The left ventricle is the other lower chamber of the heart. After that, blood passes through the aorta. The aorta is the main artery providing blood to the body. Finally, blood is released to the rest of the body.
The heart is very important. Without it functioning properly, we would not be alive. The blood flow to the heart is one of the most important factors of the heart functioning properly.
