Key Stage 1 is for children between the ages of 5 and 7 in Years 1 and 2. This stage is a part of the National Curriculum and in this way sets out which subjects must be taught. It also determines how children should be tested and what standards they should achieve.
In Key Stage 1 are 10 subjects which must be taught such as: English, maths, science, history, geography, art and design, music, design and technology, physical education and computing or ICT. In Key Stage 1 the children learn English, guided reading, phonics and mathematics every day.
At the final of the year the children will have some test and assessment such as: Year 1 phonics screening check, Maths, English reading, grammar, punctuation and spelling.
