Language is a vital tool for communication. It is means for communicating thoughts and ideas. Determining what language will be used to teach children are one of the most important decisions to make because the language used in the classroom dramatically affects children’s opportunity and ability to learn. In fact, language is the foundation for most learning, through language; children make sense of experiences and the world around them. Since the child’s own language enables her/him to express himself/herself easily, then, there is no fear of making mistakes. In the same manner, it encourages the children to have an active participation in the learning process because they understand what is being discussed and what is being asked for them. They can immediately use their mother tongue to construct new concept and explain their ideas and thoughts. There are many reasons why it is important continued to used our mother tongue in classroom instruction since there have a significant impact on their cognitive development and the development of a positive self-concept. Furthermore, local and international studies show that the use of the learner’s mother tongue or the language used at home is the most effective medium of learning. According to Luistro “It is the easiest way of the children to access unfamiliar world of school learning.”
