Line maintenance tasks are the ones that are performed quite frequently. They can be performed outside the hangar under open skies, except for situations where the weather doesn’t allow, e.g. when it’s raining, then the hangar becomes mandatory. Most of them are done during the night when the aircraft is on the ground. Below are the duties at line maintenance.
Carries out line checks, weekly checks and Out Of Phase (OOP) checks on the aircrafts.
1. Line check; it is carried out every two (2) days on the aircraft and it includes technical logbook pages reviews for open discrepancies and deferred defects, engine oil level check, visual check for the passenger door forward hand rail quick release pin, checking main and nose landing gear tires for correct pressure (8.7bar, 4.5bar for main and nose tires respectively for ATR 42-500 and 8.2bar, 4.5bar for main and nose tires respectively for ATR 72-500), general condition, and wear.
2. Weekly check; it is carried out every seven (7) days on the aircraft and it includes; checking of emergency equipment condition and validity (Fire Extinguishers, Oxygen Bottles, First Aid Kit, Torch, Protective Breathing Equipment, Escape Rope and Axe. Detailed Visual Inspection of Nacelle front section, General Visual Inspection of; aircraft doors, Landing gear and Landing gear doors, both wings of the aircraft, power plant and Nacelles, tail fuselage and stabilizers, upper fuselage, lower fuselage and radome. Other tasks carried out are on chip detection task, oil scavenger task, Brake assembly.
3. OOP check; OOP checks are carried out on different time intervals and mostly after longer periods than weekly and line checks. After 1600FH (flight hours) Propeller Brake Disk Wear Indicator is checked. Another check is the engine compressor & turbine wash, which is done after every 2weeks.
