Not that Beowulf has is that he

Not all heros fly; some fight with their hands more than others. In the narrative poem an archetype hero is introduced. Beowulf was an hero who killed all evil and saved his people.
In the reading Beowulf, he fights off Grendel with his hands rather then using a weapon. For example, one epic hero trait that Beowulf has is that he shows bravery when he fights off Grendel at the Heorot Hall. He literally fights Grendel with his bare hands and breaks his arm off. Beowulf is an outstanding fighter. In the story, he shows his fierce strength and great courage. Above all, another reason why Beowulf is an epic hero is because he fought beyond human abilities when he was fighting the dragon. The dragon is the poems most potent symbol, embodying the idea of wyrd, or fate, that imbues the story with an atmosphere of doom and death. Fifty years later the dragon became a threat to Beowulf and his people- the Geats. This is a different type of fight for Beowulf; after centuries of peace the Greats were no longer in harmony. Of course, the Geats tended to hold on to the Anglo-Saxons beliefs and along with Christian (Chua-Eoan from time, October 15,1992)
Because of this Beowulf adopted the Christian God,he felt like he could fall out of God’s grace and protection. Beowulf realized that he had done just what Hrothgar had told him not to do; his pride had become part of his nature.
Another characteristic of Beowulf is loyalty. One way in which loyalty is exemplified is when Beowulf shows his loyalty to Hrothgar when he agrees to help him rid the castle of the monster, Grendel, who has been terrorizing the mead hall for the past twelve years. ”For twelve winters, seasons of woe, the lord of the Shieldings suffered under his load of sorrow”(Nagelsan)
In addition to a warriors traits, Beowulf’s leadership contributes to him being a hero. Throughout the narration, Beowulf shows leadership multiply times. Another example of a leaders generosity takes place when Beowulf arrives back to his homeland. He is carrying many riches from his battles against evil in Hrothgar’s land. He goes and talks to his king, whereupon he gives all of it to him and the queen, even a prized golden collar.
When analyzing Beowulf as an epic hero a reader has to admit that the character shares many of these epic hero traits. Beowulf has preformed many good deeds, he risked his life for the greater of society. Still to this day Beowulf is read all over the world.
