When Oedipus learns the truth. it “bursts” into visible radiation. The metaphor of light represents truth and cognition.

“«Sight versus Blindness

A mention to this metaphor occurs early in the drama. when Oedipus falsely accuses Tiresias and Creon of confederacy. “So this is what he wants. Creon the loyal. Creon so long my friend! Stealing up to subvert and snap! ” ( page 22 ) .

“XTiresias responds by utilizing the same metaphor: “I’m blind you say ; you mock at that! I say you see and still are unsighted – appallingly: Blind to your beginnings and to a brotherhood in your house. ” ( pg 23 )

Therefore the thought of sight is critical in Oedipus the King. Though Tiresias is physically unsighted. he sees the truth from the beginning. while Oedipus. who has physical seeing. is unsighted to his destiny.

“«”Oh. look upon the metropolis. see the storm that batters down this city’s bow in moving ridges of blood” ( pg 5 )

The priest is comparing the bad state of affairs of Thebes to a storm that attacks at any minute and leaves behind terrible amendss.

“«”Now smiled upon by all. saluted now. now drawn aside by suers to the King. my ear their door to hope”

What Creon is comparing here. is his ears to the citizens’ door to trust. significance that he has the sort of power that makes people hope to accomplish something from their petition that they submitted to Creon.

“«”You called me here. I ne’er would hold come”

Tiresias is really seeking to allow him understand that Oedipus is the 1 who is forcing himself to the truth even though it’s non favourable! !
