“Parents are the ultimate role models for children

“Parents are the ultimate role models for children. Every word, movement and action has an effect. No other person or outside force has a greater influence on a child than the parent” (Bob Keeshan). Although children are influenced from the outside world, ultimately a child learns right from wrong and good from bad from their parents. Parents have a significant influence on how children turn out, including their personality, emotional development and behavioral habits. I disagree that friends are a more powerful influence on children than parents.
First of all, parents always want only the best for their children. The parents do all they can to make the child be successful by providing assistance to their children. Whenever children are going in the wrong direction, their parents will know the right way and help them understand their mistakes. They also solve problems and give important advice from past experience to help their children through life. Parents always accept a child as they really are and encourage them to keep moving forward. On the other hand, friends can propose something contrary that will not be pleasing to either side. In the novel Atticus is dedicated to his children. He instills a strong sense of morality and justice into Scout and Jem. He helps them when they are having problems and gives his children advice to get through their troubles. A real world example would be Christian parents. They raise their kids up to love and respect everyone. They teach their kids how to make the right choice and to act like a Christian. This connects to the novel To Kill a Mockingbird because the Finch’s are a Christian family and Atticus shows his children how to respect and love everyone by his actions. He always tries to make the right decision because he wants his children to be able to look up to him. However parents rear their children, it will deeply impact their children’s lives.
In addition to parents wanting the best for their child, the parents are the ones who approve the friends their children hang around with. If the parents think that their children’s friends are a bad influence, they won’t hesitate to tell their kids about it. The children will probably get mad, but in the end, they will find out that their parents were right. Sometimes it doesn’t matter if it is a good friend or bad friend, parents impact a lot of teens beyond their own. In the real-world today where almost half of marriages end in divorce, countless teens lack a role model. Parents will simply welcome that kid into their home, give them something to eat, and listen to what they are going through. Parents can change the life of someone who has never experience the unconditional love of a parent. In To Kill a Mockingbird, Dill lacks a father figure and decided to run away from home. When Dill is at the Finch’s household, Atticus welcomed him and gave him something to eat. Atticus treats Dill with respect and care and becomes the authority figure that Dill wanted in his life. A large majority of children in the world look up to an adult figure and parents are the ones who the children look up to the most.
Finally, a parent’s influence is the most important in a teenager’s life. Parents created the environment that the child is raised in. They heavily influence intelligence and personality by the way they interact with their children. As their children grow up, they are the one who prepares them for life ahead as an adult. When parents set a good example for their children, it will help children stay drug free. Some of the friends kids have today are just garbage; all they care about is taking drugs or smoking. A parent’s influence prevents their child from hanging out with that group of people and helps them make smarter choices. In the novel, most people are racist towards Negros. Atticus does everything in his power to prevent his children to be like everyone else. He sets good examples and shows them the right way to treat Negros. His children took what he said into consideration and it changed the way they lived their life. In the world today, there is a lot of racism against blacks and others. Even though this is going on, there are still parents setting examples for their kids and changing their life. Children will become better people if they can look up to an authority figure that has a good influence on them. Friends are awesome to have, but parents will always lead you in the right direction.
In conclusion, children are not only just listening to their parents, but more importantly; they are watching their parents closely and modeling their lives after them. Friends can have a good influence, but parents have the ability to change the way their children live their lives. Whether people agree with it or not, parents are the biggest influence in their teen’s life.
