Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare is a charming, timeless classic, and has been adapted into many different types of media including movies, and T.V shows to appeal to a younger audience. (HOOK) The most memorable, and visually captivating scene in the play is definitely the balcony scene, and Baz Luhrmann’s variation of the scene is the most enjoyable. Everything about that adaption of the scene is very dreamy and relatable, unlike other versions. (BACKGROUND) In the movie William Shakespeare’s Romeo + Juliet by Baz Luhrmann, he successfully portrays a realistic version of Romeo and Juliet in the balcony scene (THESIS) by making the setting visually appealing, having comedy using sounds and actions, and making everything modern, applying symbolism. (ENUMERATION) The way he had the atmosphere set up was mesmerizing, and everywhere you looked, you were engaged. (SEGUE) Instead of having Juliet up on her balcony, Luhrmann had her down, next to the pool, and close to Romeo. The setting was modernized, and the space was used intelligently. The moment Juliet walks out of the elevator, she walks around, and uses the space around when she speaks. Unlike the 2013 version, where Juliet remains in one spot. To appeal to a younger audience, Luhrmann has Romeo and Juliet in a pool
