High contents of isoflavones in soy, is what makes soy a healthy source of protein. Isoflavones account for approximately three-fourths of soy’s benefits while its protein is responsible for about one-fourth and are contained in soybeans, chick peas and other legumes. Isoflavones are a type of phytoestrogen that is very similar to the human estrogen and are part of the phytochemical class. Phytochemicals are found only in plants. Isoflavones are contained. They have antioxidant properties which allow the protection of the cardiovascular system from oxidation of LDL cholesterol or what is known as bad cholesterol.
