I will take ZAR 620 000 000 (A) when I’ve done a year’s work (C) in order to get really, really rich (E).

2. RESTATE THIS MAXIM AS A UNIVERSAL LAW.

All people (7 billion people) will take ZAR 620 000 000 when they have done a year’s work in order to get really, really rich.

3. ASK WHETHER YOUR MAXIM IS CONCEIVABLE IN A WORLD RULED BY THE UNIVERSAL LAW.

If everyone is taking ZAR 620 000 000 after they have done a year’s work, the South African labor market will collapse. Thus, no, the maxim is not conceivable in a world ruled by the universal law. Everybody will be rich which will have a negative impact on our economy. People will become faineant and there will be no more improvements in the country.

4. ASK WHETHER YOU WOULD RATIONALLY ACT ON YOUR MAXIM IN SUCH A WORLD.

No, if everyone took ZAR 620 000 000 after they have done a year’s work, then everyone in South Africa will be considered rich. This will result in a collapse in the market labor as nobody will feel the need to work anymore. If nobody worked then there would not be any food and products in the country and everything will have to be imported from other countries. This will result in hyperinflation as imported products are much more expensive than local, traditional products.

STEP 2

1. WHAT WOULD KANT PROBABLY HAVE SAID ABOUT WHITEY BASSON (OR YOU) EARNING ZAR 620 000 000?

He would probably have said that it is not the right thing to do for one person to earn that much money in one year. According to one of his categorical imperatives called the formula of universal law, it is morally wrong for one person to earn that much money.

2. WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT WHITEY BASSON (OR YOU) EARNING ZAR 620 000 000?

I think that one individual earning ZAR 620 000 000 in a third world country such as South Africa is morally wrong.

3. WHY DO YOU THINK SO?

There are many families and children who struggle to survive as they are too poor to afford any food and shelter. They cannot fulfill their needs. I think that there are many different ways that one individual with an earning that big can help better the South African economy and help people in need of basic resources such as food and shelter. If the rich only becomes richer, that would mean that the poor will only become poorer which will make it almost impossible to improve poverty.
