In contrast, in Indian students have always played a crucial role in the political process. Given the special significance of students in the politics of many nations, certain questions assume much importance and interest.

Whether of not student politics is like national politics with it: whether student politics is separate from opposed to, or ahead national politics? There are a host of particular factors that determine the nature of the relationship between student politics and senior level politics in a nation. Everything has its advantages and disadvantages: this general rule is applicable in the case of student politics as well.

There are both advantages and disadvantages of students being in the centrestage of politics. However, in this specific case, the disadvantages outnumber the advantages. Firstly, the students enter educational institutions for the purpose of study. But when they get entangled in the dirty game of politics, they get distracted from the pursuance of their prime objective. The energy and time they use or waste in masterminding political moves, could well be used to study. This entry of serious politics into the premises of educational institutions has caused untold damage to many students.

It is often seen that students get rusticated owing to their active participation in politics, thus losing their hold on studies.
