The chosen artwork for this paper is The Two Frida; it was painted by Frida Kahlo in 1939. She completed the painting shortly after her divorce from Diego Rivera. She uses self-portrait to draw two women from a different culture. This painting can be found in Mexico City at the Museo de Arte Moderno.
Frida Kahlo was a Mexican artist born in 1907 from Mexico City. She lived a tough life due to her father who was a very ill man. He was suffering from a disease known as poliomyelitis. She was also a sick individual for a period, Frida underwent many surgical operations after getting in an accident. While recovering, she started painting to keep herself busy. She did many art artworks mainly self-portraits and based popular cultures. She is said mixed European, due to her father being German and her mother being a native.
Kahlo is known for her self-portrait drawings, which was used for this beautiful artwork. In the picture, the audience can see two Fridas holding hands and also we can see a vein that connects the hearts of the two individuals. The Frida on the left is drawn with a broken heart, and she seems to be wearing what some would call a European dress based on the style. The one to the right appears to have one a dress that some say is a natural dress base on the form and also know her heritage background. When looking at the painting the part that stands out the most is the heart, unlike other drawing the two cores are out in the open.
