The article “Be a Gamer, Save the World” written by Jane McGonigal was published in the Wall Street Journal in 2011. The article talks about a different perspective on how video games can change the world to the better. The author claims that playing more hours of video games can help us solve problems like hunger, poverty, global conflicts and others. Throughout the article, Mcgonigal illustrates how video gaming can help people resolve problems. The author states that video gaming actually affects people in a positive way. It makes them able to explore and rethink goals. I agree with the author’s point of view that video gaming can get people to do great things in real life and be productive.
The author makes an argument about how video gaming can be a life changing. She provides evidence based on some studies done by her, that show that video gamers provides a gamer with the “four ingredients that make for a happy and meaningful life” (220). Mcgonigal points out that video gamers spend 80% of their time failing, but they do not give up until they reach success. She believes that gamers who play all the time can tackle obstacles and can work with other. She also believe that gamers “are more likely to set ambitious real-life goals” (221).
