The Renaissance/Reformation period brought many changes to the world as we knew it. It is looked at as a time of awakening. This time period brought us works of art in the world of literature and paintings that are still some of the most famous in history today. They were produced in a completely new style with regard to materials used and perspective of the piece. Many people found and converted to new religions and spiritual beliefs.

The new writing brought about by the Renaissance era was like nothing people had seen. Writers began writing in vernacular, the local language. The effect of this was people becoming more literate. There were also a couple of“How to” books written. One example is Niccol? Machiavelli’s The Prince which tells Nobles and Kings how to become the perfect ruler.Soon after The Prince was published Baldassare Castiglione wrote The Courtier which tells Nobles and Kings how to be a Renaissance man or in other words the perfect man. William Shakespeare was also a popular writer but instead of writing books he wrote plays. He is still known to this day as the best playwright of all time.

The artwork and paintings during the Renaissance era changed dramatically from the medieval art that people were accustomed to. They began to focus on realism, 3 dimensional paintings and most art was now influenced by the Greco-Roman culture. Artists that were popular then and are still well known today are Raphael, Leonardo da Vinci, and Michelangelo. Two of the most well known works of the Renaissance is The Mona Lisa by Leonardo da Vinci and the painting on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel by Michelangelo.

Religious and spiritual beliefs began to dramatically change during the Renaissance era. Until this era people were expected to be strictly Catholic but over the course of a few hundred years many new religions became very popular.
