To a moderate extent the Criminal Investigation process balances the rights of victims, suspects and society. The Criminal Investigation process is a complex and integral aspect of the Criminal Justice system that aims to ensure justice is appropriately served and crime is resolved lawfully, justly and in accordance with the rights of victims, suspects and society. It encapsulates the powers of the police to detain suspects, interrogate and to investigate crime scenes, through the appropriate use of warrants and other legal means. However, it also entails the rights of the suspects during the investigation process including; interrogation, bail and remand.
