Advantages and Disadvantages of Tourism Tourism is the act of travel for the purpose of not only recreation, but also the provision of services for this act. It might occupy local services such as entertainment, accommodation and catering for tourists. It may seem, that tourism brings only benefits, but further consideration shows that it also has disadvantages. Firstly, many countries depend heavily upon travel expenditures by foreigners as a source of taxation and as a source of income for the enterprises.

Therefore, the development of tourism is often a strategy to promote a particular region for the purpose of increasing commerce through exporting goods and services. Secondly, it provides direct employment for the people associated with occupations in bars and hotels. Thanks to it, the average standard of living of people increases well and at the same time unemployment is on the decrease.

However, tourists cause environmental damage through forest fires, destruction of sand dunes and pollution. Consequently this serves negatively as increased pollution disturbs local residents and also it may discourage tourists from further entering the country. After this, tourism undermines culture by commercializing it and this is often connected with increasing litter, graffiti, vandalism and noise – tourists do not always respect traditional cultures, which is sad but true.

In general, tourism is an extremely profitable process in loads of countries, especially those in which the process of development continue to depend on this industry because this industry does not require a lot of literacy and also it yields maximum profits with less investment. Advantages and disadvantages of tourism Nowadays many people travel around the world. They get new experience, emotions, relaxation… But is it that good? In some cases a trip can be even dangerous. If it is, is the new experience worth going for a trip? One major disadvantage of tourism is that it is dangerous.

There are many animals and deceases which are not common for our country, and we do not know about their existence and symptoms. When people get back they don’t pay attention to the strange symptoms until it becomes really bad. Culture difference can also cause getting into trouble. Sometimes peoples are so different that it can cost a person his life. Secondly, a trip can be very tiring, even more than work! All these flights, jet-lags, worries and losses of documents (God forbid! ) get the traveler fed up. Last but not the least fact is the expensiveness of trips.

A family can buy something useful for the money it spends on a trip. Nevertheless, the experience a person gets from a trip is always unforgettable! To travel is a good way to put into practice language knowledge and to improve it. Besides, exploring a new culture makes people be more intelligent and broad-minded. Knowledge which is got from a trip is incomparable with watching TV or reading books. A very important advantage of tourism is that one can relax. Some people like active rest, some prefer lying on the beach, some like to communicate, some dislike. One can choose a trip which fits his taste.

It helps to escape daily routine and bright impressions will be left for the whole life. All in all, everybody should choose for himself whether or not to go for a trip but one should remember about both advantages and disadvantages. Tourism Advantages And Disadvantages Nowadays, tourism is becoming one of the most attractive sectors in many countries in the world. Many people travel a lot yearly, a large number of companies invest much money in this field because of its benefits. It may seem that tourism brings only benefits, but further consideration shows that it also has disadvantages.

It can be admitted that tourism offers many advantages. The most obvious advantages is generating huge amounts of money which contributes considerably to the economic growth of an area. By attracting people from almost everywhere, the area can get much money in order to develop the other essential public services such as hospitals and schools. Another advantage is giving the citizen of the area the chance to escape poverty and attain a higher living standard. Developing tourism services means that more infrastructure such as roads, hotels and leisure facilities are built; therefore, more jobs in all levels are created.

Thanks to it, the average living standard of people get better grades increases well and at the same time unemployment rate is on the decrease. However, exploiting the resource has some disavantages, too. The quick developing speed of this field can cause the environmental destruction. The more tourists come to the area, the more pollution they bring to. Concurrently, some large multinational corporations run after their profit despite of ruining the environment. For example, they cut down the forest, destroy the natural lanscape in order to build hotels, restaurants for their business.

As a result, the natural environment would be threaten. In addition, exploiting the tourist industry can lead to the cutural degradation. Sometimes foreigners act with no respect to national traditions, for example, the behavior of European women in Eastern countries. They bring the bad influence to the community which is not conformity with the local custom. Everything always has two sides: good and bad point and so does tourism. To my way of thinking, tourism… Best Answer – Chosen by Voters Advantages: Increased inward economy leading to increased investment in the area (regional advantage).

This may result in other improvements including environmental and socio-economic factors i. e. the environment would be improved to attract further tourists and tourist facilities would be built which can also be used by local people. This means that conflict between tourists and locals has decreased because of the large scale tourism in the area. Other advantages are that it increases understanding of WW2. Normandy is the base for many cemetaries and also the D-Day landing site which are visited by many people, especially students, to gain an understanding of world history. (This would be an advantage on even an international scale).

Another advantage is that tourism creates jobs for local people and helps to decrease the unemployment rate and increase local income. This can raise the overall prestige of an area. In France as a whole many people visit the country in its entirety whilst also visiting Normandy so other areas will gain too. The multiplier effect has also occurred where other businesses have flourished e. g. ice cream sales as a result of large tourist numbers. Disadvantages: The disadvantages of tourism are that it can ruin the environment and many areas of Normandy are susceptible to this due to the high density of tourists visiting each year.

On a regional level the beaches may be destroyed and paths trodden down etc all of which require economic input to put right. In addition the number of foreigners living in the area has increased which may push the locals out of the housing market if they cannot afford the increased prices. On a national scale if Normandy begins to be over-advertised other areas of France may begin to decline. Tourists will want to visit northern France and thus visitors to less well known areas could decrease if Normandy begins to drain out the surrounding places. Source(s): A Level Geography
