SOCIAL MARKETING

Social marketing is an approach which promote health education psychologically. It is alternative route use to change or support individual behaviour for his own interest also for the advantage of the society as well. The objective of social marketing is to boost the knowledge and communicate information in connection with health. The Idea of social marketing was established by Kotler and Zaltman in 1971 to plan, to perform and managing the programs. Social marketing approach is a powerful tool to impact on individual action to boost their comfort and interest.

P2/ Two model of behaviour change that have been used in recent national health education campaigns

A campaign is program set to reach a particular ambition or convict the public to have a positive result. The campaign can be done on television, leaflets and many more.

There are many models which can be used to change individual behaviour during national health education campaign such as social learning theory, health belief model, theory of reasoned action, theory of planned behaviour, stages of change model. In general public are happy to follow any campaign instruction when they observe or see the consequence of their act or attitudes. The campaign will help them to find out the state of their health, for example healthy living. In general campaign target a category of people in the community to teach them the important healthy living. The two different models of behaviour change I will explain are: Social Learning Theory and health belief model.

Health belief model in 1950 this model was promoting by social psychologist. This model lead to individual behaviour it is also psychological health behaviour as well. Health belief model concludes that people have a conviction regarding health problem, more over the advantage of action and barriers. The aim of health belief model will be to inform individual about the side effect of smoking (drug and cigarette), the inconvenient can be short or long term. This model has perceptive predisposition to demonstrate how the individual can be easily become addict. The individual will change their behaviour if they notice there is any grave health issue. This change of their behaviour will be benefit on individual and society because the use of drug may be due to social pressure and sense of control. The individual will follow solution take to overcome any sickness. For example, during the campaign, promote stop smoking because of the side effect of smoking on individual health. Example of campaign SMOKEFREE.

Theory of planned behaviour was formed based on theory of reasoned action more over it has been recognise that individual cannot influence behaviour. In another hand this theory conclude that individual have his own behaviour but attempt to be corrupt by other individual perception, idea which may change their behaviour. The complication starts when certain people ask to set an objective, some individual will spend the time require because there is challenging there. To achieve theory of planned behaviour individual require to focus attitude towards behaviour, subjective norms, perceived behavioural control. The campaign which fit this theory most is CHANGE4LIFE

“These days, ‘modern life’ can mean that we’re a lot less active. With so many opportunities to watch TV or play computer games, and with so much convenience and fast food available, we don’t move about as much, or eat as well as we used to.”

Change for life is a government backed NHS campaign to combat the growing obesity problem in the U.K. particularly in children. The eat well- move more- live longer- change 4 life campaign was set up to help children and their families to eat healthier meals get more exercise to keep their weight down and to try and reduce health related illnesses such as type two diabetes. The campaign is a web based campaign aimed at children with different links to different pages that are filled with different healthy recipes and fun and different ways of exercising for all the family. The campaign s not only web based it advertises on television and posters with slogans such as “the way we live today means a lot to us including our kids, having fallen into bad habits this means we all need to make changes to eat well move more live longer” www.nhs.uk/change4life to encourage us all to take more notice of the diet we eat and how much exercise we really get and the simple changes that can be made to improve our health and the health of our children and families.”Sex” worth talking about campaign”Talking about sex doesn’t have to be as difficult as you think. Whether it’s…

Show More This assignment will explain two different models of behaviour change that have been used in recent national health education campaigns, it will explain what the campaigns are and how and why they are targeting certain groups in the community to try to educate them on how to live a healthier and longer life by educating them to try and change their unhealthy habits for more healthy ones.

Obesity awareness resources and stop smoking campaign

Health Belief Model: This advert would be apart of the health belief model. This is because it shows the negative effects of drugs on people and how even if you plan to have it once it can turn into an addictive By having the contact details of how to get support from Frank, it shows people that may be in that situation that there is someone they can talk to and something they can do to help themselves. Cues To Action- When receiving help, this is something that could encourage them Theory of planned behaviour: This theory emphasizes that human behaviour is not only personal attitudes but is also social pressures and a sense of control.Theory of planned behaviour is made up of two things. These are the time required to do something and the difficulty. It shows that people are more likely to complete a task if the time required is shorter and the amount of difficulty is lower. An campaign could be Change4Life. This is because in the adverts they show getting healthy and living a healthier life is easy to do and doesn’t take much time at all. It shows that it is fun and easy to be able to have an active life and to eat well. It doesn’t show the difficulty which can be involved in trying to have a healthier life and it doesn’t inform the people watching about the time it can take to be able to get to where they want to be.

M1/ Assess how the social context may influence the ability of health campaigns to change behaviour in relation to health.

In this assessment I will assess how the social have influence the health campaign which transform the behaviour. The aim of health education campaign is to inform the public about healthy eating. Any campaign is costly specially health education which require resources. This impact on health have many factor such as: Social factors, finance factors and peer pressure. The campaign was based on healthy eating lead to changing behaviour. The name of this campaign is called Change 4Life. The main issue is the finance factor

Financial factor- This matter influence the public in a negative way because the public was incapable to meet the solution find regarding obesity, for example the public was oppressed, stressed, worried because it may be difficult for them to meet the healthy lifestyle which is include eating more fresh fruit, vegetable, go to gym. Due to financial problem the public will remain eating junk food which they find costly cheap, quick and easy to cook. By ignorance the public is not getting their five a day and all the nutrients.

Social factors – Social class is a term used to describe social hierarchies. This is usually based on factors such as income, ownership of property and occupation. People in the lower groupings of social class might not be able to change their behaviour after seeing health education campaigns because they have experienced the poorest health in society, they might believe that they have little control over their health, they might not be able to afford to make changes to their health lifestyle and they could find it harder to access health services. People in higher social classes are more likely to be influenced by health campaigns because of money, time and understanding of health campaigns.

Peer Pressure- Peer pressure happens when we are influenced to do something we don’t really want to do or normally wouldn’t do, or are stopped from doing something…

Show More This is where campaigns come into place to give the public the information they need to know on how to make healthy meals at home which are less costly. A campaign was released called ‘Change 4 Life’. A campaign basically encouraging the public to eat well, move more and live longer. Change for life is a society-wide movement who’s aim is to prevent people from becoming overweight by encouraging them to eat better and exercise more.

Change for life is the marketing component of the government’s response to the high rises in obesity. A way change for life tries to encourage the public to eat well is by providing things like money off vouchers that the public can use in local supermarkets to encourage them to buy more fruit and vegetables for the home, enabling them to add these into the diet there for eating better. It also helps on the financial front as if their excuse was they cannot afford these certain types of foods, the vouchers will help them in being able to afford them. A negative aspect of this campaign would be that once families have used these vouchers as a ‘one off’ they will then go back to normal habits as they will again, not be able to afford the healthier options when it comes to food.

Issues you can improve the health issues that have become a consequence, Such as smoking, alcohol, drugs, stress, exercise and crime.

Health Campaigns to Use to Explain Models of Behaviour ChangeIn this report it will investigate at least three recent health education campaigns and use them to explain two models of behaviour change. The three recent health education campaigns will be ‘Smoke Free’, ‘Change4Life’ and ‘FRANK’. The two models of behaviour change will be the theory of reasoned action and the stages of change model. For a health educator to carry out their role effectively, they should understand the complicated processes which may influence an individual to change their behaviour. The theory of reasoned actionThis theory gives an outline that looks at the attitudes which strengthen behaviours. It suggests that the most significant cause of an …

By the person having a positive attitude and the positive subjective norm, the person will be much more likely to follow the health advice given by the Smoke Free campaign and quit smoking. The Smoke Free campaign also uses the stages of change model. When an individual is trying to quit smoking they will go through the stages of change cycle. At the stage of pre-contemplation the individual who smokes does not have intention to change their behaviour, they may not be aware or not aware enough of the damage that smoking can cause to their body and their smoking problem. At the stage of contemplation the individual may start becoming aware that they have a problem with their smoking and they are seriously considering stopping smoking but they have not yet made commitment to do something about trying to quit smoking. At the preparation stage they are intending to do something about trying to stop smoking very soon, but they have not done anything yet. At the action stage the individual makes changes to their behaviour, so that they can overcome their smoking problem, for example completely stopping smoking, gradually cutting down on smoking, using nicotine replacement therapies such as nicotine patches, nicotine gum, inhalators etc.
