We have in place, The Medicines Act 1968 which helps us to understand how to differentiate between different types of drugs and there uses. It gives us the guidelines on how to handle them safely and administer them to service users safely. We also have The Misuse of Drugs Act 1971.
The Medicines Act 1968 regulates the supplying, licences and how to administer medicines.
The Misuse of Drugs Act 1971 is in place to control the misuse, sale and distribution of dangerous drugs to prevent misuse. It classifies the drugs into catagories A, B or C. Class A drugs are the most dangerous and would be for example cocaine & Heroine, as they are highly addictive and dangerous.
